Up, Down & Around Challenge

6th Annual Up, Down & Around Challenge

9:00 AM

Take the Up, Down & Around Challenge!
This four-leg adventure race takes you on a 3-mile run on paved and off-road terrain, an 8-mile challenging yet scenic on-road bike race around the mountain, a hike up the mountain and finishes with a ski run to the finish! Do it solo or build a team!

Leg 1 3-mile Run: Will leave the upper Wachusett Parking lot, head out on to Mile Hill Road, travel downhill to Wachusett’s LOT 3, loop the outer edges of the lot, then return to Mile Hill Road where you will take a left and head further towards rte 140. You will turn around just before reaching 140 and head back to the upper parking lot via the access road. *The run is primarily on paved road; however the .5 miles in LOT 3 will be on gravel with solid footing. Total distance: Approximately 2.5 miles.

Leg 2 Bike Race: Will leave the upper parking lot, taking a right on to Mile Hill/Mountain Road and then head straight until reaching Westminster Road on the right. Take that turn and follow until the split where you'll bear right to stay on Westminster/West Princeton Road. Follow until the right hand turn on to Bolton Road and then finish by turning right up the acccess road to Wachusett back to the transition zone. Watch your speed as you head down the hill into this turn as it is a sharp right turn. *Please note that there is a 1 mile stretch of dirt/rocky road on W Princeton Road, so please plan accordingly with bike tire selection.

Leg 3 Summit Climb*: How you get to the summit is up to you… hike, snowshoe, skin… just get there as fast as you can. And enjoy the views along the way.

Leg 4 Ski Run*: There’s no better way to finish the Challenge than on skis or a snowboard!

* The hike will start by going up Conifer, then connect with Upper Balance Rock to Roper's Road. The hike to ski transition will take place at the top of the Polar Express lift. The Ski Run will be a top-to-bottom run on Conifer.

** Individual competitors MUST carry all gear on the hike to the ski transition. Team competitors can have the skier ride the lift to the summit for the transition. Hikers must hike back down the hill as the lift cannot accommodate foot traffic. (a lift ticket will be provided to teams at registration).
