Special Olympics MA - Winter Games
March 12-13 2011
Wachusett Mountain will once again host the 2011 Special Olympics Massachusetts (SOMA) Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding portion of Winter Games.
The Games include approximately 2,000 athletes and coaches, as well as 1,500 volunteers under the guidance of the professional Special Olympics Massachusetts State Office staff. SOMA's goal is to conduct a safe, quality tournament that our athletes, families, volunteers, sponsors, and hosts can enjoy and be proud to participate in.
Special Olympics Massachusetts Winter Games consist of competition in eight sports: Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding, Nordic Skiing, Floor Hockey, Figure Skating, Speed Skating, Ten Pin Bowling, and Basketball. Basketball is the largest of the eight sports hosted at Winter Games, with more than 100 teams and 1,200 coaches and athletes. We expect more than 80 athletes to compete in the alpine portion of the games here at Wachusett.
