Stellar Year for Wachusett Mountain Juniors

PRINCETON, MA. -- Wachusett Mountain junior racers and freestyle skiers have enjoyed unprecedented success in competitions this season.

Two members of the Wachusett Mountain Race Team won the Tri-State J-III Alpine Ski Championships in mid-February for the first time ever.  Sam Sutner of Worcester and Rachel Bateman of Leominster both placed first in the respective boys and girls divisions.  That qualified them to compete in the prestigious J-III Olympics in March at Okemo Mountain, VT.

Three other Wachusett Mountain Race Team boys (Eli Lilburn, Nick Manos and Bennett Muzilla) and four WMRT girls (Sarah Rouse, Elizabeth Goss, Hannah Buckley and Meghan Lahti) also finished in the top 20 at the Tri-States to qualify them to compete in the J-III Finals in March at Sunday River, ME.

Members of the Wachusett Regional High School race team, which trains at Wachusett Mountain, have also enjoyed big success this season with four boys (Josh Anderson of Holden, Jack Lilburn, Will Meyers, and Kyle Toohey of Princeton) and two girls (Julia Anderson of Holden and Caitlyn Davis of Princeton) all qualifying to the MIAA State Championships on March 1 at Berkshire East Ski Area.  This year is the first season that Wachusett has sent 6 athletes to the state finals.

In the freestyle circuit, two Wachusett skiers (brothers Sam Stimpson and Chris Stimpson of Princeton) both recently won the USASA Freestyle event in mid February at Crotched Mountain, NH.  Led by Coach Ryan Logan, the Stimpsons and members of the Wachusett Mountain Xtreme Team have all been placing among the top competitors in USASA events throughout the season.
