December 11, 2008 - Central Mass. Ice Storm!

The severe ice storm which struck the region the night of December 11 has tested the resolve of thousands of Central Massachusetts residents.  For those of impacted by the storm, the few days following created numerous disruptions in many people's lives.  For some it was more than a week without power!

After the devastation to the area and five days disrupted operations, power was restored to the ski area on Tuesday, December 16.  We reopened for day and night skiing and riding on Wednesday, December 17.   Remarkably, the only major damage was to the lighting available for night skiing on Challenger trail but the other trails did not incur any additional damage to our lighting system. Repairs are being made quickly.

During the aftermath of the storm, our staff worked closely with the utility companies and the towns of Princeton and Westminster to help return service to the region.  Our crews and equipment helped clear the local roads so emergency workers could travel safely and begin the recovery process.  Our food and beverage department joined local restaurants to help provide food for local residents, National Guard and emergency workers at the Thomas Prince School shelter in Princeton.  The Wachusett Village Inn in Westminster was also designated as a command post for National Grid workers in the region.

The power outage also impacted our internet online ordering system.   To reorder, customers are asked to please either call us at 978.464.2300 or go online at Wachusett.com and we will be happy to expedite your request.

On behalf of the entire staff at Wachusett Mountain Ski Area, we our loyal customers' support and patience during the storm and recovery effort.   Below are several pictures from this unbelievable storm.
